MEET THE MAN BEHIND THE PRO COMPOSER

"It took me years of effort and struggle to build my dream career. Now, I'm focused on sharing the roadmap to success with my clients."

Robbie Teehan

How it Started

Classical Training

(2001-2007)

Robbie Teehan begins his musical career as a classical tuba player. His first compositions are written for ensembles he performed in at university; brass ensembles and chamber choirs.

When he wins the Vancouver Chamber Choir's Young Composers' Competition, he begins to consider the possibility of a career as a composer.

Branching Out

(2007-2015)

Despite some early career success in the classical music industry, including a JUNO nomination for Classical Composition of the Year for his orchestral work "Dreams of Flying" and several additional choral composition awards, Robbie begins to feel restless in the classical world and begins exploring writing and performing in commercial / pop genres, with the idea of eventually transitioning to a career in film scoring.

Musical Adventure

(2007-2015)

Expanding on his classical tuba training, Robbie becomes known around Toronto as a sousaphone bass player with several well-known folk and jazz bands including Lemon Bucket Orkestra, the Heavyweights Brass Band, andĀ the Boxcar Boys.Ā  Meanwhile, he begins his film scoring journey with indie short films and documentaries, eventuallyĀ completing the Berlinale Talent Campus and the Canadian Film Centre's Slaight Music Residency.

California Dreaming

(2015-2020)

Taking a leap of faith, Robbie leaves his bands and primary instrument behind and makes the move to Los Angeles to go all-in on his dreams of being a professional media composer.

While there, he is fortunate to land a job as assistant to TV composer Sean Callery (24, Homeland, Designated Survivor, Jessica Jones, Elementary) who becomes his employer and mentor for 5 years. During this time, Robbie contributes to more than 300 episodes of prime-time network TV shows.

The Pro Composer

(2020-present)

Stranded overseas during the pandemic, Robbie explores teaching and coaching composers online while awaiting the return of the film industry. The Pro Composer facebook community is born, and eventually grows toĀ 5000 professional and aspiring professional media composers.

As his new coaching business takes off, Robbie discovers an unexpected calling in helping fellow composers achieve career success. Eventually returning to his home country of Canada, he continues to score award-winning indie films while serving media composers around the world.
